Mwaungulu named 2023 FDH Cup Best Player

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu has been named the 2023 FDH Bank Cup Player of the Tournament.

The winger was an overwhelming winner from a strong three-player short-list, including Mafco’s Paul Ndhlovu and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers striker Clement Nyondo (formerly of Dedza Dynamos).

Mwaungulu was one of the few ever-present members of the 2023 quadruple winners as they defended the cup.

The 23-year-old played in all five matches, winning three Player of the Match awards, including in the final against Mafco, which ended 3-0.

Our Bullets Reserves graduate was involved in eight of the 13 goals we scored in the competition, finding the back of the net twice and providing six assists.

He reacted: “I am delighted with this award because it motivates me to keep pushing. I want to keep doing well in the field of play. I am targeting to play outside Malawi to fulfil my vision.”

The ultimate individual award is his second for the 2023 season after he was crowned the TNM Super League Player of the Season in January.

In the other category, forward Hassan Kajoke won the Golden Boot award after scoring four goals in the 2023 FDH Bank Cup, his first-ever individual accolade in the competition.
