Peter Mponda reacts to goalless draw against Creck at home

Peter Mponda reflected on FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ goalless draw against Creck Sporting Club during the first leg of the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium.

Despite controlling possession for most of the match, the People’s Team struggled to make the most of their dominance, creating fewer attacking chances than expected, with forward Hassan Kajoke wasting the most clear-cut chance of the match with only the goalkeeper to beat in the second half.

Although the match ended in a stalemate and the team now faces an away second leg, the Bullets’ head coach expressed satisfaction with the defending champions’ overall performance.

“My boys did well today, but, unfortunately, we didn’t score any goal. We bossed possession and controlled everything, but we couldn’t score any goal. This is only 45 minutes, and another game is coming in the next few weeks, we are looking forward to making it work,” he told journalists.

Mponda acknowledged the limited chances created and stated that addressing this issue should be a priority for him.

“Our friends did so little today because we were in full control. We missed chances, and this is something that we can work on so that we start scoring goals. I am very confident that we will come out well.”

The draw leaves Bullets with plenty to do in the second leg, but Mponda remains optimistic, confident that his team will give their all to secure the result away in the Capital.

“If the second game is over, then we shouldn’t train, but if we are travelling to Lilongwe for the return leg, then it’s far from over. We will go there and get a result, a positive one for that matter. Today, they were lucky to have walked out of this stadium without conceding, but that won’t be the case in the return leg.”

Mponda’s men will shift their focus to Wednesday’s TNM Super League clash against the same opponents at the same venue.

After opening our campaign with a gritty 1-0 victory over Silver Strikers last week, Bullets will be determined to pick up where we left off as we face a formidable challenge in Creck Sporting Club.
