The Art and Beauty: A look at October’s GOTM nominations

Share

Five spectacular strikes from Maxwell Gasten Phodo, Patrick Mwaungulu, Ephraim Kondowe and Lanjesi Nkhoma are in line for October’s Precious Medical International Goal of the Month.

The People’s Team netted 14 goals in eight games we played in all competitions last month.

As they cruise in all domestic competitions Maule are not forgetting to offer a lot of entertainment with some special way of beating the keeper. Let’s relive the strikes in detail with you.

Kondowe vs Moyale Barracks

When one-nil down away at Moyale Barracks, the defending champions had heaped themselves a cliff to climb but a moment of rare reality from Kondowe got Bullets a strong response to the military outfit.

Receiving a pass from Nkhoma on the edge of the area, the forward fired a terrific strike that cleanly smashed the top corner of the net, leaving the opposition goalkeeper Macdonald Harawa in awe.  Kondowe’s strike carried both beauty and great value, it was top stuff and deserves to be nominated as it inspired an incredible 3-2 comeback.

Kondowe vs Mafco

On the big stage, in the FDH Bank Cup final against Mafco, the striker got his name on the scoresheet with a goal that manifested how steadily he is establishing himself as a top striker at Maule.

The beauty in this goal is that he displays great awareness of the penetrative play going on down the area and perfected his run to arrive in and on time at the middle of the goal to easily round up what was a wonderful team move with a simple tap-in from Mwaungulu’s delicious pass and seal off a 3-0 big victory.

Mwaungulu vs Bangwe All Stars

Spot on anticipation, swift scanning thinking and the effortless execution shown by the young midfielder put his match-winning goal against the TNM Super League debutants in its bracket.

A misservice from the visitors’ goalie Elias Misi lands into his path around the arc of the area and when the most rush to whack it over the bar, Mwaungulu bends it up with permission to land only at the right place, across the goal-line. What a way to score the winner, the art deserves the nomination.

Nkhoma vs Moyale Barracks

After a long run with the ball down the byline and a dribble past a defender to get into the box, the slippery pacey winger smuggled a goal at the near post in an angle he had no right to exploit.

The goal is a true collector’s item in every deal as it is not down to coincidence but rather to the cleverness of the forward who is also our leading top goal scorer so far in this campaign. For sure it has to be considered for the Precious Medical International sponsored award.

Phodo vs Civil United

The central striker opened the scoring in our 2-0 win against The Servants in the Airtel Top 8 quarter-final first leg in Lilongwe and it was absolutely magnificent.

He receives the ball from Stanley Biliati outside the box and tees himself before hitting the ball on the bounce, fashioning a superb volley past the keeper to get the fans off their seats in awe. Truly it was a technique of top quality and surely befits a nomination.
