Nyasa Big Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa says there is still a lot of work to do despite moving eight points clear ahead of the second-placed Blue Eagles following The People’s Team’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium on Sunday.
Babatunde Adepoju scored the only goal with 16 minutes to play to inspire the reigning champions to their twelfth victory in the ongoing campaign.
But despite the good run of his team this season, Pasuwa believes that there is still some work to do to get the better of his players.
“It’s very good that we are topping the league in the first round, but remember we dismantled our team and brought in more youngsters from the Reserves, which is very important for us not to relax and push for more because we still have a lot of work to do to get the best out of these players.
“You saw the way we played against Kamuzu Barracks. Most of the time we were losing possession, we lacked confidence when having the ball and we need to give confidence to the boys,” he told journalists after the match.
However, Pasuwa hailed his charges for putting up a gallant fight when all seemed lost against a very tough opponent.
“It was a very difficult game for us today because we kept on losing the ball to our opponents, who seemed like they had mastered the art of playing on such a football pitch. But the most important thing is that we got the three points under such very difficult circumstances, so congratulations to the boys for the gallant fight when all seemed lost.”
Sunday’s win means Bullets have managed to win eight straight games, six of them being away from home.
Collecting 38 points from 14 games, Pasuwa’s side has conceded six goals, scoring 28 goals in the process.
The People’s Team will finish the first round with a home game against Sable Farming on Friday, a fixture that has been rescheduled from Saturday due to the Malawi national team flight schedule to South Africa for the two-week 2022 COSAFA Cup slated to kick off on 5th July in Durban.
The team will take a two-week break before resuming the second round.
