Yankho Singo has signed a new contract that will extend his stay with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets until 2028.
The 24-year-old midfielder has been an integral part of the first team for the last two seasons after graduating from our reserves in 2022.
Singo has made 50 appearances for the first under former head coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
He earned his first Malawi call-up last year, playing two games against Burundi and Burkina Faso in the TotalErnegies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Said Singo: “It feels good to be rewarded with a long-term contract. As a player, we indeed had a very difficult season last year, but that’s water under the bridge. We must forget about last season and move forward. We saw how teams prepared for us after winning all the trophies in the 2023 season and we believe we have learned our lessons,” he told club media.
Singo is looking forward to working under our new head coach Peter Mponda, vowing to give it all as he did under Pasuwa, who won everything in his six-year stay with the club.
“As a player, I believe that the secret to having a successful career is to listen to every coach. I don’t need to undermine him just because he is new or he was once an assistant to Pasuwa because now he is the head coach, he needs to be respected. I will give it all to him the way I used to play under my former coach, and we believe we will have a successful season with the new coach.”
Commenting on Singo’s contract extension, Mponda expressed his satisfaction, saying the midfielder deserves to be rewarded for his hard-working spirit.
“It’s a reward to Yankho for his extraordinary work. Last season, he was instrumental for this club and had a very good season. I am very excited to have secured his signature on a long-term deal and I look forward to working with him.
“It is important for us as a club to secure players on long-term deals because it gives us comfort knowing that we are working with players who are committed to playing for the club. It’s also easy for me as a coach to do my planning, and this is very motivating. I feel good that we have secured him, and we are still working on other players to extend their contracts with the club so that we are ready for the new season,” said Mponda.
