Two quick goals from Kelvin Chimodzi and Martin Adam in the opening half sealed a convincing 2-0 win for our Under 19s over Alphasoft to solidify their top position in the FCB Katswiri Under 20 League at the Police Training School Ground on Friday.
What happened
In a flying start, Bullets stormed out the blocks with lightning-quick goals that left opponents reeling.
Chimodzi struck first, sending Bullets into the lead in the 7th minute with a clinical header, teamed up by Osman George.
The blistering start didn’t end there, just 60 seconds later, Adam doubled the lead, capitalizing on a pinpoint Chimodzi cross to change the scoreboard to 2-0.
Just after conceding two quick goals, Alphasoft started coming into the game as they had a free kick taken by Kondwani Enock, but his shot went straight into the palms of our shot-stopper Daniel Matumula.
Enock also had the chance to score but Matumula had it easy to manage the situation.
Bullets kept knocking and adding pressure to the opponents and Maxwell Sakanamba had a chance to change the scoreline but his 25th minute attempt sailed wide.
In the last five minutes of the opening half, Alphasoft had two quick free kicks but couldn’t make use of the setpieces as Bullets were solid at the back to guard the lead until the 40th minute to finish the first period leading 2-0.
At the start of the second half, Bullets made a substitution introducing Edwin Mcfalle for Vincent Kampira, as Yamikani Fodya was looking for fresh legs.
Chimodzi should’ve doubled his tally on the day in the 46th minute but failed to put the ball back in the net from a rebound after Brian Mwase’s effort hit the woodwork.
Bullets continued attacking and pressuring the opponents and Adam came close only to guide his strike wide before Sakanamba had an effort from a free kick in the 55th minute hit the post.
Issah Felix and Charles Kasalanga were brought into the game in the 60th minute when they replaced Adam and Mwase.
Chimodzi was brought down to win Bullets free kick and Sakanamba stepped up to take it with his left foot, but Shadreck Lamson denied our central midfielder from conceding a corner kick which Precious Chamangwana sent straight in the palms of the ‘keeper.
Prince Jamali and Precious Kumbanga were given the last four minutes but their introduction had no major impact as the young Bullets maintained their first-half 2-0 scoreline to grab maximum points.
What it means
Following the 2-0 triumph over Alphasoft, Bullets now have 34 points from 13 games, clinging to the top stop.
Fodya’s Reaction after the match
“It was a challenging game, considering our opponents are at the bottom of league standings. We were clinical, and we took our chances when it mattered most. The early goals set the tone for the rest of the match, and we were able to dictate the pace.
“But we can’t get too carried away with this win. We’ve got another massive game tomorrow afternoon, and we need to make sure we’re ready,” he told club media in a postmatch interview.
What next
Bullets U19s will turn into action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Ndirande Stars at Chilomoni Stadium.
