FCB Nyasa Big Bullets enjoyed an eventful weekend across multiple competitions. The Under-19s continued their strong league push, while the Women’s Team wrapped up their inaugural NBM Women’s Premiership campaign.
Meanwhile, the First Team continued gearing up for their Castel Challenge Cup quarterfinal, while the Reserves enjoy a well-earned off-season break. Here’s a full look at the latest from The People’s Team.
Under-19s: Bullets 2–0 Airsport FC
FCB Katswiri Blantyre District Youth Football League | Mpira Stadium | Saturday
The Under-19s strengthened their title credentials with a decisive 2–0 win over Airsport FC. Jazil Bannet opened the scoring in the 50th minute after neat work from Esau Kumwenda, before setting up Kumwenda four minutes later to double the lead.
The victory temporarily lifted Young Maule to second place in the BDYFL with 53 points. However, Ekhaya Youth reclaimed the position after defeating league leaders Mighty Wanderers Youth 2–0 on Sunday, keeping the title race very much alive as the season enters its decisive phase.
Coach Yamikani Fodya: “We’ll take confidence from this win as we prepare for our crucial match against Ekhaya Youth and aim to maintain momentum in the title race.”
Women’s Team: Silver Strikers Ladies 2–1 Bullets
NBM Women’s Premiership | Silver Stadium | Sunday
The Women’s Team concluded their debut NBM Women’s Premiership campaign with a hard-fought 2–1 defeat away to champions Silver Strikers Ladies.
Chimwemwe Sapangwa put the Maule Ladies ahead in the 40th minute, but Ireen Khumalo equalized from the penalty spot just two minutes later, sending the sides into the break level at 1–1. Silver Strikers edged ahead in the 65th minute when Wezzi Mvula struck from a corner. Bullets pressed late with a flurry of attacking substitutions but were unable to find an equalizer.
The result confirmed a fourth-place finish for Bullets Women, ending the campaign on 31 points after remaining in top-three contention until the final stages.
Coach Maggie Chombo: “I am very proud of the girls—this season was about learning, growth, and laying a strong foundation. We’ll take the lessons from this campaign into the off-season and work hard to come back even stronger next season.”
First Team & Reserves Update
The First Team continue preparations for their Castel Challenge Cup quarterfinal away to Mighty Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium this Saturday. They secured their Last 8 spot after a 3–1 win over Ndirande Stars last week.
Over the weekend, First Interim Head Coach Gilbert Chirwa integrated four Reserves players into the senior squad, injecting fresh energy for the remainder of the season. The young talents joining the First Team are wingbacks Kondwani Tebulo and Prince Chiumia, midfielder Francis Malikebu, and wing attacker Misheck Billiat.
Meanwhile, Bullets Reserves continue their off-season break after completing the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League a fortnight ago, giving players time to rest and recharge ahead of pre-season preparations.
