The wait is finally over.
After months of anticipation, planning, and preparation, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women are set to step into history. This Saturday, 26 July 2025, The People’s Team will take to the field at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe, not just to compete—but to be part of something much bigger than a football match.
It’s more than just the first game of the season. It’s the beginning of a new era for women’s football in Malawi.
Backed by a K280 million sponsorship from the National Bank of Malawi (NBM), the NBM Women’s Premiership officially kicks off this weekend as the country’s first-ever fully-fledged national women’s football league. Gone is the old regional structure. In its place stands a professional league that unites the top 10 teams in the land—eyeing not just local glory but continental dreams through qualification to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
And who better to launch this moment than Bullets Women, the Southern Region champions, hosting long-time rivals Kukoma Ntopwa Women in what promises to be a fiery opening fixture. Kick-off is at 14:30.
A Rivalry Rekindled
When these two sides meet, the stakes are never small.
Earlier this year, Ntopwa denied Bullets a place in the quarterfinals of the Goshen-FAM National Championship—a painful memory that still lingers. But this weekend offers a chance at redemption. This time, it’s not just about revenge—it’s about writing a new chapter, in a new league, under a new spotlight.
With the home crowd behind them and the nation watching, Maule Women know what’s at stake. It’s not just about three points. It’s about setting the tone for the journey ahead.
The League That Changes Everything
The NBM Women’s Premiership introduces a double round-robin format, with each team playing 18 matches throughout the season. At the end of the campaign, the bottom three will be relegated, while the champions will walk away with K10 million in prize money. Second and third-placed teams will receive K5 million and K3 million, respectively.
But the financial backing doesn’t stop there. Every team, including Bullets, has received a K13 million subvention package, along with full equipment support—kits, footballs, and other essentials—to help transform the standard of the women’s game in Malawi.
Elsewhere in Week 1
The action continues on Sunday, 27 July, with four additional fixtures scheduled across the country.
In Mzuzu, MK Academy Women will host Civil Service Women in an early kick-off at 11:00, followed by Moyale Sisters taking on Mighty Wanderers Queens at the same venue in the afternoon fixture at 14:30.
At Champion Stadium, MDF Lioness will face Silver Strikers Ladies in another 11:00 kick-off, while Ascent Soccer Academy will go head-to-head with Topik Academy at Ascent Ground, with their match also scheduled for 14:30.
The Moment Is Now
For the players, it’s the culmination of years of hard work. For the fans, it’s a chance to witness something special. For Bullets Women, it’s the moment to step forward—not just as contenders, but as trailblazers in Malawi’s football story.
Saturday is not just matchday. It’s Maule history in the making. Let the journey begin.
