FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are delighted to announce the return of striker Mary Chavinda, who has rejoined the club on a one-year contract following a spell abroad with Rwandan outfit Rayon Sports Women.
The prolific forward, affectionately known as “Ma Dimpo”, expressed her excitement to return “home” to a club she credits for her rise in women’s football.
“Signing with Bullets again is a great feeling. I was away for some time, but coming back, the club has welcomed me warmly, and I truly appreciate that,” said Chavinda. “I’ve returned with new knowledge and experience that I believe will help both myself and the team get back to the level we once were. The coach should expect more from me—I’m ready to give my all.”
Proven Track Record
Before moving to Rwanda in 2023, Chavinda was one of the most lethal forwards in the FAM Women’s Southern Region Football League. She won the Golden Boot with 49 goals, helping Bullets win the regional title and qualify for the national phase before moving abroad.
In Rwanda, Chavinda continued her fine form with Rayon Sports Women, where she scored 13 goals and provided 6 assists in 17 league matches, further underlining her attacking quality in a more competitive league structure.
“The league structure abroad is different. They have multiple competitions—league and various cup tournaments—which help build stronger teams and greater competitiveness. That’s something we can learn from back home.”
Returning with Purpose
Chavinda said the decision to return was motivated by a desire to restart her journey and possibly earn another shot at playing outside the country in the future.
“This is the team that helped shape me into the player I am. They took care of me and gave me the platform to be recognized by other clubs and even the national team.”
Despite not receiving a call-up to the Scorchers while playing abroad, Chavinda remains determined to earn her place back in the national setup.
“Not being called up while I was in Rwanda wasn’t due to performance—maybe I just wasn’t in the coach’s plans. But now, one of my biggest goals is to fight for my place back in the national team.”
She also used the opportunity to advocate for more domestic competitions in Malawi.
“I would like to appeal to the Football Association of Malawi to consider introducing a cup competition alongside the current league. This would go a long way in strengthening our clubs and national team.”
Message to the Fans
As she embarks on this new chapter, Chavinda had a message for the fans:
“To our supporters, I kindly ask that you continue backing us just as passionately as you support the main team. We promise to give you our best in every game.”
Her return is a major boost to the Bullets Women squad as they prepare for the 2025 FAM Southern Region League and upcoming national competitions.
