Mpokera: Winning second POTM fuels my belief

Blessings Mpokera delivered a colossal performance on Sunday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium, earning the Player of the Match award as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets battled to a determined 2-0 victory over Mighty Tigers in the TNM Super League.

In a tightly contested encounter, both sides headed into the break goalless, with chances few and far between. But as the match wore on, Bullets found their rhythm and struck late through Hassan Kajoke and Babatunde Adepoju to bag all three points in front of their home supporters.

While the goals secured the win, it was the 23-year-old’s defensive masterclass that stood out. The centre-back was a wall at the back—commanding in the air, calm under pressure, and relentless in shutting down every Tigers attack. His leadership and composure helped Bullets secure a crucial clean sheet and extend their lead at the summit of the table.

Speaking after receiving his second individual award this season, the Malawi international was quick to share the spotlight with his teammates and coaches.

“It’s never easy to win this kind of award,” he said. “We play as a team, and anyone can shine on the day. I’m truly grateful to God, my teammates, and the technical panel—without them, this wouldn’t be possible. The instructions from the coaches today really helped me raise my game.”

With momentum on his side, the defender revealed his personal ambitions and what the recognition means to him.

“Picking up my second Man of the Match pushes me even harder. It boosts my confidence and makes me believe more in what I can achieve. I want to keep this level going—I’m targeting Defender of the Season or even Player of the Season. That’s the standard I’ve set for myself.”

Reflecting on the team’s late goals, Mpokera praised the collective belief and spirit within the squad.

“This win says everything about who we are as a team,” he added. “We never stop fighting. We encourage each other until the very last minute because in football, every second counts. We believed we could win—and we did.”

With the result, and second-placed Mighty Wanderers winning 3-0 away to Kamuzu Barracks, Bullets still sit two points clear at the top of the TNM Super League standings as they continue their charge toward reclaiming the title.
