FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves head coach Heston Munthali was full of praise for his side after a dominant 3-0 victory over FC Thondwe on Saturday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium.
The result not only restored winning momentum following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with The Boys but also strengthened Bullets Reserves’ grip on top spot in the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League.
Oscar Petro opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes with a thunderous strike that set the tone for the afternoon. In the second half, Enos Hendeman and Macray Chiwaya added two more goals to seal an emphatic win for the youthful side.
Reflecting on the performance, Munthali praised his players for rising to the occasion after a frustrating outing the previous week.
“Coming into this match against Thondwe, we were coming from a 1-1 draw last week against The Boys,” Munthali said.
“But today, the response from the team was very positive. We made good use of the chances we created and managed to score three goals. I must give credit to the players—they truly deserved the win today.”
The Reserves controlled large portions of the game, and Munthali credited halftime adjustments and tactical changes for his team’s sharper second-half performance.
“In the first half, we only managed to score one goal,” he explained. “But after addressing a few things during the halftime team talk and making some tactical changes, we came out stronger. We started attacking more, created several chances, and added two more goals. We pressed them high up the pitch and were solid from the back going forward—especially in the second half.”
While the win further cements their position at the summit, Munthali stressed that there’s still plenty of work to do as the season intensifies.
“This team is still under construction—many of the players are new, and we’re learning with each game,” he said.
“Our focus is on improving team chemistry and correcting our mistakes as the league becomes more competitive. We want to grow stronger with each performance.”
The emphatic win takes Bullets Reserves to 26 points—two clear of second-placed Ekhaya Reserves, who sit on 24 points with a game in hand. With the title race heating up, Munthali’s side will be looking to maintain their momentum and keep their rivals at bay.
