Henry Kabichi praised the character shown by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves after the young Maule side came from behind to earn a 3-2 victory over Mwanza Stars on Sunday.
The result at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium marked a winning start to Bullets’ 2026/27 SRFA FINCA Premier Division League campaign after goals from Kondwani Mhone, an own goal by Chisomo Damalankhunda and Francis Malikebu completed the comeback.
Speaking after the match, Kabichi expressed satisfaction with the way his side responded after conceding first away from home.
“We started the game very well and created several good moments early on, so even after conceding first, the players remained calm and continued following the game plan,” said Kabichi.
“I am happy with the character the boys showed because it is never easy to start a new season away from home and still come back to win the match.”
He also highlighted Bullets’ aggressive pressing and attacking intent during an impressive first-half display that saw Maule overturn the deficit before halftime.
“We pressed well, moved the ball with confidence and created problems for them in several areas of the pitch. I think the players deserved the lead we carried into the break.”
The former Bullets midfielder further commended the players for remaining organised and disciplined after being reduced to 10 men late in the second half following Vincent Kampira’s sending off.
“It became difficult towards the end after the sending off, but the boys defended well and managed the situation strongly. That is another positive we can take from the match.”
He also reserved praise for Man of the Match Kondwani Mhone, whose influential display helped inspire Maule’s comeback victory in Mwanza.
“Mhone had an excellent game. He worked hard for the team, scored an important goal and remained dangerous throughout the match. We are happy with his performance.”
The victory ensured Maule opened the new regional campaign with maximum points ahead of the next fixture in the SRFA FINCA Premier Division League.
