Bullets players called into Malawi U-23 camp

Ten Nyasa Big Bullets players have been called into Patrick Mabedi’s Malawi U-23 provisional squad for an international tournament slated for Turkey from 24-29 March 2022.

Seven of the players that are part of the 31-man squad are from the senior team whilst three are from Bullets Reserves.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced on Saturday night that the players will start will go into camp at Mpira Village in Blantyre on Monday, 14 March.

Defender Kesten Simbi and midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu, who have recently joined the senior team from Bullets Reserves have been given the call up alongside Stanley Billiat, Lanjesi Nkhoma, Clever Mkungula and Alick Lungu, who joined the first team from the Reserves last season.

Mabedi has also called Bullets junior side’s goalkeeper Sherrif Swadick, defender Andrew Lameck and winger Chikumbutso Salima.

Simbi and Mwaungulu made their senior debuts for Bullets senior team in our 1-0 win over Silver Strikers in the NBS Bank Charity Shield last weekend in a game Mkungula was very outstanding between the sticks for The People’s Team.

According to a statement by the Malawian FA, β€œplayers who will be involved in official club matches on the weekend of 19 and 20 March will be released on Wednesday afternoon to fulfill their respective assignments and report back [into camp] after their matches”.

Bullets are scheduled to kick off their TNM Super League title defence with a tough fixture against rivals Mighty Wanderers in the Blantyre derby at Kamuzu Stadium on the 19th, before their second league fixture away to Blue Eagles on March 26.

Malawi will be using the tournament to prepare for the Africa Nations Championship qualifiers, which will start in June and the 2026 Olympics qualifiers scheduled for September.

Kuwait and Togo are some of the countries that will take part in the tournament.
