FCB Nyasa Big Bullets has confirmed its first team leadership group, with head coach Gilbert Chirwa appointing Blessings Mpokera as the club’s new captain ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Mpokera takes over the armband from Frank Willard, who led The People’s Team from August 2025, and now steps into the role after previously serving as third captain.
The defender will lead Bullets into the new season, bringing experience and leadership qualities that have made him a key figure within the squad.
Yankho Singo has been named second captain, while Chawanangwa Gumbo completes the leadership group as third captain, reinforcing a strong leadership core tasked with guiding the team on and off the pitch.
The changes also follow the departure of former second captain Babatunde Adepoju, who has since returned to Venda Football Club in South Africa.
Mpokera joined Bullets first team in the 2020/21 season after rising through the club’s youth and reserve ranks.
Since his promotion, the defender has made close to 150 first-team appearances, establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in the squad.
Over the years, the Malawi international has grown into a cornerstone of Bullets’ defence, contributing to multiple title-winning campaigns while embodying the Maule spirit both on and off the pitch.
A true product of the Bullets pathway, Mpokera represents the club’s vision of developing homegrown talent into first-team leaders.
His versatility, discipline, consistency and leadership have made him a vital figure at the back, while his maturity continues to inspire the next generation of Maule stars.
The appointments come as Bullets step up preparations for the new season, with the leadership group expected to play a key role in setting standards within the squad.
Bullets will open the 2026/27 campaign with the NBS Bank Charity Shield against rivals Mighty Wanderers this Saturday, before kicking off the FDH Bank Premiership away to Civil Service United on 25 April.
