George Chaomba threatens Ekhaya goal

Weekend Wrap: Draw for Bullets, minutes for loanees

First team share spoils in the Airtel Top 8, Bullets Reserves fixture postponed and loaned players continue gaining valuable experience.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets experienced another busy weekend across various competitions, with the first team held in the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinal first leg, Bullets Reserves seeing their fixture postponed and several loan players continuing their development with valuable minutes for their respective clubs.

From George Chaomba’s goal in Wedson Nyirenda’s first match in charge to competitive action for players out on loan, the weekend once again showcased the depth of football activity across the club.

FIRST TEAM

The People’s Team were held to a 1-1 draw by Ekhaya FC in the first leg of the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinal at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday night.

After a goalless first half, Chaomba gave Bullets the lead shortly after the restart, finishing off a well-worked move involving Misheck Billiat and Maxwell Phodo.

However, Allen Chihana found the equaliser for the visitors midway through the second half to leave the tie finely balanced ahead of next month’s return leg at Mpira Stadium.

The result marked Nyirenda’s first match in charge of The People’s Team and leaves the quarterfinal delicately poised heading into the second leg.

RESERVES

Bullets Reserves were left without action after their scheduled SRFA FINCA Division League 1 fixture against Nyambadwe United was postponed due to the unavailability of the match venue.

The postponement means Bullets remain third in the standings with six points from three matches as they await confirmation of a new date for the fixture.

LOAN WATCH

Several Bullets players on loan featured for their respective clubs over the weekend.

Oscar Petro started for Civil Service United in the early Airtel Top 8 quarterfinal first-leg kick-off at Bingu National Stadium, where the Servants played out a goalless draw against Blue Eagles.

In the NBS National Division League, Prince Chalera was named in the starting lineup for Bangwe All Stars’ 1-1 draw against FOMO FC. Cedric Maxwell and Hadji Steven were both introduced in the second half as Bangwe battled to a share of the spoils.

With no FDH Bank Premiership fixtures at the weekend, goalkeeper Austin Chirambo was not in action with his club, LUANAR Mitundu FC.

The club’s loan contingent continues to gain valuable experience through regular exposure to senior football across the country’s top competitions.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Attention now shifts back to league action for Bullets, who travel to Lilongwe on Sunday for an FDH Bank Premiership encounter against Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium.

The fixture will mark Nyirenda’s first league match in charge and offers Maule an opportunity to return to winning ways after a run of draws left the club sixth in the standings with 10 points from six matches.

Elsewhere, Bullets Reserves await confirmation of a new date for their postponed fixture, while the club’s loan contingent will continue gaining valuable experience across domestic competitions.

The FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women’s Team and the club’s Under-19 side remain in their off-season period as they await the resumption of their respective league campaigns.

With important fixtures on the horizon and players continuing to gain experience across the first team, women’s team, reserves, youth setup and loan system, another busy week awaits The People’s Team.
