FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ new head coach Wedson Nyirenda says restoring confidence and reinforcing a winning mentality will be among his immediate priorities at the club.
During his unveiling in Blantyre on Wednesday, Nyirenda outlined his vision for the team, identifying confidence and a winning mentality as key foundations for success.
The Zambian tactician believes the squad has the quality required to compete for honours, but says confidence must be rebuilt following a run of draws in the opening weeks of the season.
Nyirenda says success is non-negotiable at a club of Bullets’ stature and acknowledged the responsibility that comes with leading Malawi’s most successful football club.
“Winning the league is a must for a big team like Bullets, so I know exactly what is at stake.
“That is why we need to work on bringing back confidence in the players because when you draw many games, confidence goes down and people stop believing in themselves.
“We have to bring them back in alignment with a winning mentality.”
The former Zambia national team coach believes the players already possess the qualities needed to succeed and says restoring belief within the squad will be a key part of his work.
He acknowledged the competitive nature of the FDH Bank Premiership, describing it as one of the qualities that makes the league exciting.
“Malawian football is very competitive. It is not an easy league because every team wants to win and every game presents a challenge.
“But I believe we can do our best and achieve the objectives of this football club.”
For Nyirenda, restoring confidence is the first step towards rebuilding the winning mentality he believes is essential for a club of Bullets’ stature.
His message is clear: belief must return, confidence must grow and the standards expected at The People’s Team must remain unchanged.
