FCB Nyasa Big Bullets claimed all four categories at the 2022 FDH Bank Cup Awards ceremony held at the Mpira Village on Friday.

Our Reserves side 2022 Players’ Player of the Year, Chikumbutso Salima, now on loan at Bangwe All Stars, was announced the Player of the Tournament for the competition won by our first team after beating our juniors in the final.

For putting up pulsating and impactful performances that inspired our premier division side to finish as runners-up in the elite cup competition, the 19-year-old Salima also won the Discovery of the Tournament award.

Babatunde Adepoju, who left The People’s Team for Venda FC earlier this year, was presented with the Golden Boot award after finishing the tournament with a number of five goals.

Babatunde’s brace in the final confirmed himself as the overall top goal scorer of the tourney with two goals ahead of Salima who struck blank during the ultimate game to finish with three strikes.

It wasn’t all about the dribbling and scoring that drew the spotlight in the competition but the art of goalkeeping too as our first team net-minder, Richard Chimbamba, scooped the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

Chimbamba produced a series of match-winning saves and finished the tourney with two clean sheets to help our first team clinch their first-ever FDH Bank Cup silverware in history.

All the award-winning players, except Babatunde, are set for the new domestic season campaign which starts this weekend.

While Chimbamba is to continue to be in goals for our first team, the out-on-loan Salima is set for his debut season in top-flight football with Bangwe All Stars, and after leaving the club in January, the Golden Boot award winner is meanwhile continuing to settle at Venda FC in South Africa.

Last year, the FDH Bank Cup finished with Nyasa Big Bullets as winners and Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves as runners-up after the two sides played out a four-goal thriller.

A new campaign for the competition will start on 16th May and it is expected to finish in September, the Football Association of Malawi made the announcement during the award ceremony.
