Chimwemwe Idana has been voted as the Hubertus Clausius Player of the Month for May 2022.

The midfielder got 55.7 percent of the votes above defenders Precious Samban and Kesten Simbi, who accumulated 25.8 percent and 18.5 percent of the total votes as voted by fans via mobile using the club’s 441 SMS platform.

The team’s technical panel, headed by coach Kalisto Pasuwa nominated the trio for the inaugural award following their outstanding performances in May as The People’s Team won all five TNM Super League games played during the month.

The supporters were given seven days to vote and after counting the votes, it was the 2020/21 Player of the Season who emerged winner.

In this campaign, the Bullets vice-captain is continuing from where he stopped in the 2020/21 season when he was also named Best Midfielder. He has already scored four goals and his contribution has been immense, inspiring the team to its current top position in the standings.

In May he scored one goal each against Rumphi United and Red Lions. He also had a hand in our first goal against Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium when his through-ball to Patrick Mwaungulu forced the visitors’ defender to commit a foul closer to the penalty box before the forward netted a beautiful free kick.

The player of the month award was introduced in May by Bullets in conjunction with its partner, Hubertus as one way of motivating top performers at the club.

Reacting to him winning the inaugural award, introduced by the club in partnership with insurance company, Hubertus Clausius, Idana hailed the fans for the continued support, saying it is a source of motivation.

“I want to thank the fans for the support ever since I joined this club. I am humbled and this will motivate me to continue performing well for this great club,” he told club media.

Congratulations, Idana!
