Mponda shares latest on Peter Banda

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda has shared an update regarding Peter Banda’s recovery.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been recuperating following a successful right shoulder surgery performed in January.

For years, Banda’s performance was hindered by persistent shoulder problems. After undergoing surgery, he dedicated three months to physiotherapy and gym rehabilitation, and has only recently begun easing back into light training on the field.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Kamuzu Barracks clash on Saturday, Mponda revealed the midfielder’s progress and addressed hopes for his return.

“Everyone wants to see him soon, but we don’t want to rush him,” the Bullets head coach said Thursday morning. “If we rush him, he can go back. He had a long injury, so he needs time to be fully fit, but the progress is encouraging.”

Banda initially joined The People’s Team on loan from Griffin Youngsters in 2019 and became a permanent signing in 2020 after being named TNM Super League Player of the Season. In 2021, he was loaned to FC Sheriff Tiraspol in the Moldovan Supa Liga before securing a permanent move to Simba S.C. in Tanzania later that year.

He made his return to Bullets during the 2023 season on a four-month contract after leaving Simba, and extended his stay with a new three-year agreement in October 2024, three months before the club sent him for surgery in Kenya.
