Bullets injury update: Precious Phiri out for six weeks

Share

Kalisto Pasuwa has provided the latest injury update ahead of Nyasa Big Bullets’ TNM Super League encounter against Kamuzu Barracks on Sunday.

Speaking to the club’s media team after Thursday’s training session at the Kamuzu Stadium, the Head Coach disclosed that Precious Phiri will be on the sidelines for six weeks due to a fractured right foot.

“Precious Phiri is in a plaster after picking an injury during training. Following scans, it has shown that it would take him six weeks to fully recover and rejoin the rest of the squad,” confirmed the coach.

The right-footed winger joins midfielder Righteous Banda and defender Ben Manyozo on the injury list.

Banda was early December ruled out for the rest of the 2020-21 season after undergoing a knee surgery, while Manyozo, who was slowly finding his way into Pasuwa’s starting XI after the coach converted him from defensive midfielder to central defense, is also set to miss action for six weeks due to a bone fracture on the left leg.

The head coach also gave an update on midfielder and vice-captain, Chimango Kayira, who missed training on Thursday, following his return from injury two weeks ago, before Bullets suspended training for several days due to Covid-19 cases among the squad and a staff member.

“Chimango has been training for the past three days [when we resumed preparations], but he didn’t show up today because he went to the hospital for a medical, but we hope by tomorrow everything will be okay with him,” explained Pasuwa.

Bullets will also be without several other players during Sunday’s match against KB. Eight squad members are in isolation after testing positive for Covid-19, a pandemic which has forced the Malawi Government to ban supporters from watching matches.

The match against Kamuzu Barracks comes following the postponement of be The People’s Team’s clash versus BE Forward Wanderers last weekend due to Covid-19 situation in Bullets camp.

Sunday’s encounter will be Bullets’ fourth game at home this season after hosting Blue Eagles, Red Lions and Moyale Barracks, collecting five points from two draws and a win. The two away games saw Bullets suffering a defeat at the hands of Karonga United before defeating Chitipa United last month.
