Bullets vs Kamuzu Barracks: Kalisto Pasuwa’s pre-match interview

After a week-long break due to the Covid-19 situation within our club, Nyasa Big Bullets returned to training on Monday ahead of the TNM Super League clash against Kamuzu Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.

The Bullets media team on Thursday sat down with Head Coach, Kalisto Pasuwa, to discuss The People’s Team’s sixth league fixture of this campaign, fitness of the squad and playing at Kamuzu Stadium without fans [due to Covid-19 restrictions].

Scroll down to read more on Pasuwa’s update ahead of the game on Sunday.

On the team’s preparations ahead of the KB match:

“We had a break [off training] for a week, but we gave the boys a program to follow starting from the day we suspended our sessions and they were following it because when we resume training on Monday their fitness levels were good.”

On having several players missing due to Covid-19:

“Yes, we are missing some of the players due to the fact that they tested positive to Covid-19, but we have players who can go and do the job in the absence of their fellow players.”

On playing a competitive match without fans:

“We are professional enough to play without fans. We are playing without our fans and we need to prepare our minds. We have talked to the boys to adjust very quickly in order for us to play without our 12th player and we hope results will favor us.”

On his approach against Kamuzu Barracks, a team his side beat 2-0 in the second round last season, through Chimweme Idana and Chiukepo’s Msowoya second-half goals:

“When we were going towards the end of last season, all the teams were very fit and aggressive and they matched us in all departments [up until we adjusted and scored two goals late in the second half]. We need to do more because it’s not a matter of stepping into the field of play and say we are playing Kamuzu Barracks at our home ground without a fight, we need to do everything for us to have the results in our favor. It’s the approach that we take when we start off the game [that will make us collect maximum points come Sunday].

“The first 15 to 20 minutes are very key to us and remember last time when we played Red Lions, we scored early but we were disrupted by the rains and we ended up making mistakes.

“We need to take the first minutes very seriously and when we are leading, we can be playing according to our rhythm than to follow the other side of it, which gives the boys too much pressure because they play to chase for the goals conceded.”

Bullets, currently eighth on the 16-member log table, will be looking for a second win at home this season to take the tally to eleven points.

Before the break last week, The People’s Team defeated another military side, Kamuzu Barracks 5-1 to register the first win at Kamuzu Stadium after drawing 0-0 against Blue Eagles in the opening match of the season, and Red Lions 3-3 in the fourth match, before losing to Karonga United 0-1 and a 2-0 against Chitipa United away.
