TNM Super League – Sunday, 28 July 2025 | Kamuzu Stadium | Kick-off: 14h30
Following our triumphant Airtel Top 8 Cup final victory over Silver Strikers last weekend, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to TNM Super League action this Sunday with a crucial fixture against Blue Eagles at Kamuzu Stadium.
The People’s Team will be looking to bounce back in the league after suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Civil Service United prior to the cup competition break—a result that saw us surrender top spot to rivals Mighty Wanderers.
Sunday’s fixture marks the first time Blue Eagles return to Kamuzu Stadium to face Bullets in two years. The last league meeting between the two sides in Blantyre was on 9 July 2023, when The People’s Team secured a commanding 3-0 victory.
The most recent league fixture came in November 2023 at Area 30, where Bullets were held to a goalless draw. With both sides in the top five once again, this weekend’s contest promises another competitive encounter between two familiar rivals.
FORM GUIDE
Bullets return to league duty full of confidence after lifting the Airtel Top 8 Cup last weekend, defeating Silver Strikers in a dramatic penalty shootout. However, The People’s Team will be eager to bounce back in the TNM Super League after a 2-1 defeat to Civil Service United before the cup break—a result that saw us surrender the top spot to rivals Mighty Wanderers.
In the last five matches across all competitions, Bullets have registered three wins, one draw, and one loss. Blue Eagles, meanwhile, are on an unbeaten run in their last five league fixtures, collecting two wins and three draws. The Area 30 outfit’s most recent result—a 1-0 away win in Karonga—proves their strength on the road and signals a tough challenge ahead for the hosts.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
The hosts have had more wins than their opponents in 20 meetings since the 2013 season in league competition. The People’s Team has collected ten wins, scoring 21 goals, while Eagles have registered three wins. Seven games have ended in draws.
Bullets registered a double over Eagles in 2013 with a 2-0 first-round win in Lilongwe before completing the job with a hard-fought 3-2 win in the reverse fixture.
In 2014, Bullets won 1-0 in Lilongwe and drew 1-1 at Kamuzu Stadium.
Eagles’ biggest win over us came in 2015 when they hammered us 3-0 at Nankhaka Stadium after we had already secured the championship. The first-round match ended 1-1.
In 2016, Bullets won 1-0 in the first round but were held 1-1 in Lilongwe.
In 2017, Bullets won 3-0 in the first round but lost 2-1 in the reverse fixture at Nankhaka.
The 2018 season saw Bullets register two 1-0 wins to complete a double.
In 2019, the Eagles beat Bullets 2-1 at home, but the People’s Team responded with a massive 4-0 win at Kamuzu Stadium.
The 2020/21 season saw a 0-0 draw at Kamuzu Stadium and a 1-0 Bullets win away.
In 2022, both league fixtures ended 1-1.
In 2023, Bullets beat Eagles 3-0 at Kamuzu Stadium, before a goalless draw in the reverse fixture in Lilongwe.
There was no league meeting in 2024 as Eagles had been relegated, though they won the FDH Bank Cup Final on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
TEAM NEWS
Head Coach Peter Mponda will have the luxury of working with almost a full squad for Sunday’s assignment. The only absentee is Chrispin Mapemba, who remains sidelined due to a long-term injury.
The match also marks Bullets’ first league outing without former captain Lloyd Aaron, who this week completed a move to Qatari side Muaither SC.
Zambian full-back Dominic Musonda, who impressed in the Airtel Top 8 final, could keep his place in the starting line-up as Mponda looks to manage player workloads amid a busy schedule. Overall, the squad is in good shape heading into the clash.
FROM THE COACH
“They’re a strong, consistent side — their recent win in Karonga shows that. But we are playing at Kamuzu Stadium. We are coming for all three points, no excuses.” — Peter Mponda, Head Coach
