Airtel Top 8 final details revealed

Share

The date and venue for the delayed 2023 Airtel Top 8 final have been fixed.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) revealed on Thursday the fixture is scheduled for 6 January 2024 at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who will face the winner between Silver Strikers and Mafco FC, have been waiting for the final details to be announced by the FAM.

This follows a final verdict by the FAM’s Disciplinary Committee to uphold a decision by the Competitions Committee to award Silver a 4-0 aggregate win over Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

Wanderers abandoned the quarter-final first leg against the Central Bankers in October following a “controversial goal” awarded to the Area 47 side by referee Godfrey Nkhakananga late in the second half when the game was 1-1.

Further, the Nomads did not show up for the return leg at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on 6 December.

Thursday’s ruling means Silver will proceed to host Mafco in the second semi-final tie next Tuesday and the winner will face Bullets for the top prize.

Kalisto Pasuwa’s men defeated Blue Eagles 3-2 in the capital to reach the Airtel Top 8 final.

This means the 2023 soccer calendar will not end on 31 December as earlier planned by FAM.
