August Player of the Month Nominees

Share

Gomezgani Chirwa, Babatunde Adepoju, Lloyd Aaron and Nickson Nyasulu are in the running for the August Hubertus Clausius Player of the Month award.

The People’s Team walked out of August with three wins, one draw, and a single defeat in all competitions.

It was a month filled with highs and lows for Kalisto Pasuwa’s side.

Bullets emerged 2-1 winners over Zambia’s Red Arrows at home before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat away to exit the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League in the preliminary round yet again.

While Moyale Barracks managed to hold us to a 1-1 draw at home in the TNM Super League, the Lions of Kaning’ina received a thrashing from us in the semis of the FDH Bank Cup by a 1-3 scoreline at the Bingu National Stadium.

As you take time to choose your winner, we relive how the nominees fared in August.

Many of our players put up spirited performances but a few stood out to earn a nomination for this monthly award.

Babatunde Adepoju

The Nigerian proved himself to be the big guy in August, scoring big goals in an iconic manner.

Baba scored the equalizer in our 2-1 home triumph against Red Arrows at the BNS. That is before getting an assist and a brace in our 3-1 victory against Moyale Barracks to book us a place in the FDH Bank Cup final.

Except for the league match against Moyale, the forward featured in all our fixtures and did so loudly. His nomination reflects his August illuminating contribution.

Lloyd Aaron

On the graph, the performances from the midfielder since he joined us have proved unfalling. He never missed a match for us in August and to lay his mark he won the Paramount Concrete Products Player of the Match in the Champions League when we hosted the Zambian champions in Lilongwe.

Involved in more defensive success and chance creations in August, the Malawi international deserves a place on this nomination list.

Gomezgani Chirwa

After years of top service at the club, Gome has been recently entrusted with the armband. For that, the wing-back has been grateful by showing solid performances most especially in August.

There are at times he can remind everyone of his explosiveness but his new amazing ability is now being able to integrate more into the dynamics of the team in a more effective way.

His output was so good that it recently earned him a Malawi national team call-up after a long time. He played the entire 90 minutes as the Flames lost 3-2 to Burundi in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers at the BNS on Thursday.

Clearly, our new first-team captain earns it. He featured in all the games we played in August and was constantly one of our brightest.

Nickson Nyasulu

In a season rumours had it that he was set to leave our camp in a loan move, Nyasulu has stamped and beaconed his place in Pasuwa’s first-eleven.

Our reserves graduate centre-back is now one of the most consistent top performers in the team, seemingly with his entire heart, he has been putting our goals on guard.

In our 1-0 win over Civil in the FDH Bank Cup quarter-finals, Nyasulu got the vote for both the FDH Bank Cup and Paramount Concrete Products Player of the Match awards after a Berlin-wall defensive show.

Nyasulu never missed a minute for us in August across all competitions and his convincing displays have not been overlooked by Patrick Mabedi who has recalled him into his Flames AFCON squad.
