Chawanangwa Gumbo, Precious Sambani, Richard Chimbamba, and Babatunde Adepoju have been picked for the September Hubertus Clausius Player of the Month award.
Since their back-to-back defeats in the first fortnight of September, the Malawi champions have responded strongly, recording four consecutive wins in all competitions.
Having suffered a shock defeat to Blue Eagles in the FDH Bank Cup final on 2 September, we have now moved closer to the semis of the 2024 Airtel Top 8 Trophy. After the first leg against Civil Service United, we hold a 2-0 lead.
After three straight wins in the TNM Super League, we are now in third place in the standings with 34 points.
It has been a collective effort to keep our season poised as it is, but the nominees demanded recognition in this monthly award category.
While you take time to vote, here is a brief look at how these contenders fared.
Precious Sambani
He might have passed on the armband to Gomezgani Chirwa, but Sambani continues to produce exemplary performances for the club.
He finished the month with a superb strike and a single assist, coming from our 4-2 home win over Chitipa United. In September, he was only missing in action against Baka City but made his presence felt in the five games he featured.
Chawanangwa Gumbo
The former Ekwendeni Hammers captain was largely involved last month. He got the vital second goal against Civil in the Airtel Top 8 quarter-final, allowing us to go into the return leg with a healthy 2-0 lead over the Servants.
His display against Civil earned him the Player of the Match award. At the end of the month, he contributed to our winning goal against Baka, forcing Nelson Sikaona to concede against his own side, which gave us all three points with a 1-0 triumph last Sunday.
He only missed the Blue Eagles game but delivered in the rest of his September appearances.
Richard Chimbamba
Our number one goalkeeper was in super cat mode in September, making many key saves when needed most. He kept two clean sheets out of the four matches he played in, and in the ones conceded, he was simply outstanding with big-moment reflexes.
The shot-stopper has enjoyed several big performances this season, and this nomination may be a deserved bonus.
Babatunde Adepoju
You can’t ignore the striker right now, as he seems unmoved by the spotlight. September was his month again, and he finished it with three goals and a single assist.
After his splendid performance against Chitipa, he was voted the Super League of Malawi Player of the Match, and Paramount Concrete Products also presented him with a similar award.
