Six Bullets named in Malawi Afcon squad to face Egypt

Share

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets has contributed six players to the Malawi National Football Team final squad for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt.

The Flames travel to Cairo to face The Pharaohs in the first-leg tie at the Stadium Air Defence this Friday before hosting the Rui Vitoria side at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe next Tuesday.

Mario Marinica had initially included eight Bullets players in the local-based squad that started training in February before departing for Saudi Arabia for a ten-day camping, but Precious Sambani pulled out due to an injury.

However, seven players travelled to Saudi and six of them have made it into Marian Mario Marinica’s final 27-man squad.

Goalkeeper Clever Mkungula, who made his full Flames debut at the Cosafa Senior Challenge tournament last year, has made it into the squad alongside defenders Alick Lungu, Blessings Mpokera and the 2022 TNM Super League Player Season, Gomezgani Chirwa.

Promising winger Patrick Mwaungulu, who had 21 League assists and nine goals to his name in his senior debut season last campaign, is also part of the squad, although he joined his fellow players late in Saudi Arabia.

Defensive midfielder Frank Willard has also been included, but midfielder Chawanangwa Gumbo has failed to make it into the national final squad and is expected to resume training with The Peoples Team in readiness for the domestic campaign, expected to kick off on April 8.

The Flames are second in Group D with three points, just like Ethiopia, Guinea and Egypt.

We wish our representatives all the best as they take on the seven-time Afcon champions.
