Weekend Wrap: Mixed results for Bullets

First team maintain unbeaten start, Bullets Reserves win opener while loaned youngsters impress.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets enjoyed another busy weekend across different competitions, with the first team earning a point on the road and Bullets Reserves opening their campaign with an impressive comeback victory.

From Lilongwe to Mwanza, Bullets teams once again showed determination, character and competitiveness across all levels of the club.

FIRST TEAM

The People’s Team travelled to the capital city on Saturday for a highly contested FDH Bank Premiership encounter against Blue Eagles at Civo Stadium.

Blue Eagles started brightly and broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through Tonic Viyuyu, who handed the hosts a narrow advantage heading into the halftime break.

Bullets responded strongly after the restart and found the equaliser five minutes into the second half. Ephraim Kondowe reacted quickest from close range after Blue Eagles goalkeeper Masamba failed to deal with Paul Master’s effort, calmly slotting home to level matters at 1-1.

Both teams created opportunities in an entertaining second half, but neither side could find a winning goal as the match ended in a share of the spoils.

The result means Bullets remain unbeaten in the league after five matches, having registered two wins and three draws so far this season.

Gilbert Chirwa’s men will now turn their attention to Week 6, where they will host Moyale Barracks at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium on Sunday as they look to return to winning ways.

RESERVES

Away from Lilongwe, Bullets Reserves enjoyed a memorable start to their 2026 SRFA FINCA Division One League campaign with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mwanza Stars on Sunday at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium.

Mwanza Stars made the brighter start and took the lead in the 15th minute when Chisomo Dama’s dangerous free-kick caused confusion inside the penalty area before Medson Dozola reacted quickest to score from the rebound.

The young Maule responded strongly and showed great character to fight back.

Kondwani Mhone inspired the comeback with a brilliant long-range strike in the 20th minute after being set up by Movic Banda to restore parity for the visitors.

Mhone produced a standout display as Bullets Reserves defeated Mwanza Stars.

Bullets completed the turnaround five minutes later when pressure from Vincent Kampira forced Chisomo Damalankhunda into putting the ball into his own net, giving Bullets a 2-1 lead.

Francis Malikebu then added the third goal in the 38th minute after excellent work from Movic Banda, who won possession before setting up Tawina Phiri to create the chance that led to the goal.

Mwanza Stars pulled one back in the 72nd minute through Damalankhunda from the penalty spot following a handball decision inside the box.

The closing stages proved tense for the young Bullets, especially after Kampira was sent off in the 83rd minute following a second yellow card, but the visitors held on strongly to secure all three points and begin the season on a winning note.

The performance highlighted the fighting spirit, attacking quality and depth within the club’s development structure, with several youngsters delivering standout displays.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

Paul Master delivered an impressive performance for the first team during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Blue Eagles in Lilongwe.

Facing his former club, the midfielder produced a composed display in the middle of the park and was named Player of the Match after helping Bullets maintain their unbeaten league start.

Bullets Reserves midfielder Kondwani Mhone also earned Player of the Match recognition following an outstanding display in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Mwanza Stars.

Mhone inspired the comeback with a brilliant long-range strike while continuing to influence the game with his energy and attacking presence in midfield.

LOAN WATCH

Austin Chirambo was not involved as Luanar Mitundu FC lost 1-0 away to Red Lions in Saturday’s FDH Bank Premiership encounter in Zomba.

Midfielder Oscar Petro was also involved in the top flight as Civil Service United suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Karonga United on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the NBS Bank National Division League, Bullets youngsters Cedrick Maxwell, Hadji Steven and Prince Chalera were all part of Bangwe All Stars’ 2-2 draw with Mighty Tigers on Sunday.

Maxwell made an early impact by providing an assist inside the opening minute before being substituted in the 55th minute.

Steven was introduced at the same stage of the second half as Bangwe pushed for a positive result, while Chalera remained an unused substitute.

The players continue gaining valuable senior experience as part of Maule’s long-term player development pathway.

WOMEN’S TEAM

Preparations for the upcoming season continued for the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women side, with the squad continuing to focus on sharpening fitness levels, tactical organisation and squad chemistry ahead of the new campaign.

UNDER-19S

The Under-19 side is set to begin its league campaign next month, with coaches continuing to assess the squad and fine-tune preparations during training sessions.

THE WEEK AHEAD

With the first team maintaining their unbeaten league start, Bullets Reserves opening their campaign with victory and preparations ongoing across the Women’s Team and Under-19 setup, attention now shifts to another busy week as the club builds momentum in the early stages of the season.
