Bullets Women set for inaugural National Bank Women’s League

A new era for women’s football begins — and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women are proudly part of it.

Following a strong regional campaign, the Bullets Women’s team has automatically qualified for the first-ever National Bank Women’s League, Malawi’s new top-tier women’s football competition, set to kick off on 26 July 2025.

Malawi’s First National Women’s League

The National Bank Women’s League replaces the regional system as the premier women’s competition in Malawi. Backed by a groundbreaking K1 billion sponsorship from the National Bank of Malawi (NBM), the league brings together the best of the South, Centre, and North in one unified format.

Ten teams will compete in the 2025 season: three from each of the 2024 Regional Leagues and one more to qualify through playoffs between the fourth-placed teams from all three regions.

The competition was officially launched on Wednesday at Mpira Village in Blantyre, where the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced a K280 million package dedicated to the women’s league. The funding includes K156.65 million in prize money and K53.575 million for team subventions.

Bullets Women Among the Best

The confirmed teams for the 2025 season include FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, Kukoma Ntopwa Women and Mighty Wanderers Queens from the South; Ascent Soccer, Civil Service Women and Silver Strikers Ladies from the Centre; and Moyale Sisters, MK Academy and Topik Sisters from the North.

The final spot will be decided through playoffs involving Bangwe All Stars (South), MDF Lionesses (Centre) and Mzuzu City Hammers (North).

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women earned their place by lifting the 2024 Goshen-FAM Women’s Football Southern Region League title, a victory that qualified them for the now-defunct National Championship, where they bowed out in the quarterfinals. Although that route has since been phased out, Maule Women now step into a new and exciting national chapter.

League Format and Incentives

The National Bank Women’s League will be played in a double round-robin format, with each team playing 18 matches. The league champions will go on to represent Malawi in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

At the end of the season, the bottom three teams will be relegated to their respective regional leagues, with regional champions gaining promotion to the national competition.

The prize structure will see the champions walking away with K10 million, while the runners-up will receive K5 million and the third-placed team K3 million.

Each participating club will also receive K13 million in subvention, two full sets of uniforms, five footballs, and individual player awards.

With a spot in the national spotlight secured, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women are ready to carry the Maule spirit into the next level of competition.
