PMI doubles Goal of the Month prize money

Precious Medical International (PMI) has increased the prize money for the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Goal of the Month award.

The winner will now be getting a miniature and MK200,000 as the prize money has been adjusted from MK100,000.

This was disclosed on Thursday when PMI presented prizes to Chawanangwa Gumbo and Patrick Mwaungulu.

The midfielders are the first beneficiaries of the individual awards this season for their goals against Baka City in April and Mzuzu City Hammers in May, respectively.

Titania Katenga Kaunda, PMI Commercial Manager, said they revised the package looking at how the Bullets players performed during the 2023 season, winning a historic quadruple.

“The past season, the team won every trophy in Malawi, from TNM Super League, Airtel Top 8, Castel Challenge Cup, FDH Bank Cup and the [NBS] Charity Shield. It’s just a demonstration that they are doing well and we contributed to that as their partners and to celebrate that success, we have decided to increase the package,” confirmed Kaunda.

“We are the fastest growing medical insurance and we partnered with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to support the players and also encourage them to go the extra mile in the field. You might wish to know that Patrick Mwaungulu has been honoured three times and this is the third time he is getting the trophy and the money from Precious Medical International, a demonstration that he is doing well [in line with] one of our benefits [which] is wellness that encourages and promotes players to do more.

“As we present different services and wellness to this club, we believe that their success is also our success,” explained Kaunda.

The seasoned marketer also touched on the business aspect of the partnership, saying “Bullets is The People’s Team and Malawians follow what they are doing even the successes of individual players. So as a brand, we have benefited a lot in terms of brand recognition but also, we have grown because some of our corporate [clients] came on board because they support this team.”

Bullets Chief Administrative Officer, Albert Chigoga, said the commitment from PMI has had a massive positive impact on the players’ performances as far as goal scoring is concerned.

“I think it’s evident in terms of how we performed last year. We scooped all the silverware in Malawi and also, and we did well in other competitions like the Charity Shield and CAF Champions League because of the partnership that we started with Precious Medical International. It was MK100,000 when we started and the players were scoring for fun and we believe that this increase will just make these players more motivated than ever before. We believe that we can replicate how we performed last year despite a slow start to the current campaign,” he said.

Mwaungulu, who is our current top goal scorer in the league this season with five goals reiterated that the award was a motivation to the players.

“This is a very big motivation to us as players because whenever we score, we feel happy and motivated to do extra more. The goals push us to work extra hard and I have been scoring a lot of goals for the team because I am motivated to be scoring in every game. Yes, we are currently struggling but it’s just a phase. It will pass and we are looking forward to returning to winning ways as we normally do,” said the Bullets midfielder.
