Reaction: Chirwa hails tactical discipline in FDH Cup win

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets First Assistant Coach Gilbert Chirwa praised his players for executing the game plan with composure and tactical maturity, as The People’s Team brushed aside The Boys SFC 3-0 to reach the quarterfinals of the 2025 FDH Bank Cup.

A Hard-Fought Victory

Although the final scoreline suggested a comfortable win, Chirwa admitted that Saturday’s clash at Kamuzu Stadium was far from easy.

“It was a good game. We planned for this game to come and win it. We encouraged our players to be serious because cup games are unpredictable, and anything can happen,” Chirwa said.

With the hosts sitting deep in a compact defensive shape, Bullets had to stay patient and maintain possession in the opening half.

“We told them to keep the ball, play it simple, and that’s exactly what happened. I think the bus that they deployed was eventually unlocked, and we managed to score the goals,” he explained.

Focus on the Final

Goals from Blessings Mpokera and Mike Mkwate late in the first half gave Bullets breathing room before Chikumbutso Salima sealed the result after the break.

The win pushed the defending champions into the last eight of the competition as they continue their quest for a third FDH Bank Cup title in four years, following triumphs in 2022 and 2023.

“That’s our motto—we would like to go all the way and reach another final,” Chirwa stated. “However, it won’t be easy. We have to work very hard, and I’m sure things will go our way.”

What’s Next

Bullets will now turn attention to league matters with a return to TNM Super League action scheduled for Saturday, 27 September. The People’s Team will host Dedza Dynamos at Kamuzu Stadium in the rescheduled fixture.
