Inside Bullets this week

It’s a new week that presents another frenzied period for Nyasa Big Bullets. Three of our teams are involved starting midweek, except for the youth side, which is currently not involved in any competition after failing to qualify for the FCB Under-20 Youth League National Finals.

We take a look at what’s coming ahead in the next few days.

Men’s main team

Kalisto Paswa’s men return to the field of play on Saturday after resting this past weekend as they waited to know their semifinal opponent in the 2022 Airtel Top 8 Cup. Bullets, who are the current holders of the cup, will play Silver Strikers in the last four at Kamuzu Stadium.

Maule were the first to seal a spot in the last four after they hammered Karonga United 8-1 in the two-legged affair which ended 1-1 in the second leg after the first encounter that saw Bullets scoring seven goals past the Northern Region outfit.

Should they win on Saturday, Pasuwa’s charges will advance to their second cup final this season having bagged the FDH Cup in October. The People’s Team targets a treble this season, but the first step towards that will be a victory against The Central Bankers, who are also looking for a piece of silverware after missing out on the FDH Cup and the TNM Super League.

Pasuwa’s charges returned to training on Monday after they had three days of rest.

Women

Fresh from their 5-1 victory over Evirom to maintain their impressive start to FAM Women’s Football Southern Region League, Nyasa Big Bullets Women switch their attention to another league match on Saturday when they play host to Blantyre Hotspurs at a venue to be announced.

The free-scoring Maggie Chombo’s ladies have scored 90 goals in nine games as they lead the standings with 27 points. A win on Saturday will extend their lead to 30 points in their quest to defend the championship.

Reserves

Enos Chatama’s side recorded a 2-0 win over Prison United at Balaka Stadium on Sunday in the quarter-final first leg of the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League, courtesy of a strike each from Crispin Mapemba and Macray Chiwaya to take a massive advantage heading into the second leg which will be played at Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday.

A win will see the defending champions advance to the semi-finals where they will face Changalume Barracks.
