FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have completed a deal to re-sign Peter Banda on a three-year deal.
The 24-year-old midfielder had a short spell with the 2023 quadruple-winning team when he signed a four-month contract after he left Simba S.C.
Banda’s last game for the Malawi champions was the final of the Airtel Top 8 against Mafco FC on 6 January.
After signing his new deal, Banda said, “I just want to thank God for giving me this second chance. I would also like to thank Bullets management, my manager, and my family for their support. This is a second chance, and I don’t want to talk much, but I promise that once I recover, people will see a different player in me.”
He confirmed further that Bullets are sending him for surgery before he returns to the pitch.
“I have been out of action for close to a year without playing football, and it wasn’t an easy period for me. This injury is the reason why I was sidelined, but with this contract, I am very optimistic that I will be back in action after undergoing this treatment in Kenya. I want to focus on this recovery and then see how it goes. I don’t want to talk much, but I promise to be back with a bang,” he told club media.
Banda also commented on the message he posted on Instagram on Tuesday, which read, “This comeback is personal it’s an apology to myself”.
“I am a footballer; I survive on football, and spending almost a year without playing football has taught me a lot. I have been motivated to get better and to come back stronger. It’s not easy for a player to spend a year without playing, yet we survive through football. I am very grateful for this second chance. I will forever be thankful to this club, my manager, my family, and everyone who has been there for me; I owe them a very big thank you. I am very confident that I will be back, and I will focus on my recovery,” he explained.
Bullets Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga commented on Banda’s return.
“As FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, we are delighted to sign Peter Banda back to this club. He is a very talented footballer, and I don’t have to emphasise that because everyone knows this player’s qualities and attributes. He has been on the sidelines for quite some time, and this is an emotional comeback to Bullets. As a talented player like Peter, who was also playing for the Flames, we felt very sad about his situation. He decided to return to his family, and we were excited when he talked to us. We received him with open arms and welcomed him back.
“We have signed him with the hope that he will undergo a very smooth recovery process as he is expected to travel to Kenya for his treatment, and that’s the most important thing. He needs treatment, and once he gets treatment, he will recover. By the time the team regroups for the 2025 pre-season, we are hopeful he will be part of the team.
“It’s not a loss to Bullets [re-signing him and sending him out for treatment]. He is only 24 years old, very young, and we can’t just dump a player like that. We need to support him in whatever way we can. He needs to get moral support to make sure he gets the best treatment for his recovery until we see him back in the field of play.”
