What we needed was a win – Pasuwa

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa says his team needed a win to motivate the players who, at some point, lost hope and were fighting for a draw.

After 450 minutes of a winless streak in the TNM Super League, the defending champions finally registered a 3-0 win over FOMO FC on Wednesday to reach a 20-point mark, having registered eight draws after 11 games.

Maxwell Phodo, who has returned from injury, opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game as Babatunde Adepoju’s header doubled our lead in the 39th minute before halftime substitute Stanley Billiat completed the job 18 minutes before the final whistle.

“I think today, it was supposed to be a win. I don’t know scrappy; I don’t even care that it wasn’t a convincing performance but we got three points and that’s what matters,” reacted Pasuwa following the victory, our fourth this league campaign.

“Remember we have been playing beautiful football and getting draws, to the extent of seeing the players fighting for a point. And we reached a point where fans would run away from us. Now we have the three points and at least this can motivate the boys in terms of scoring.”

On the importance of scoring the three goals, the tactician believes the problem wasn’t his players, but a phase in which they could do anything to get results but it wasn’t happening.

“I have been saying it’s a phase and it shall pass. It was getting into their minds to say every time they played, they would miss chances hence even our strikers were running away from the box, but today, when they scored a goal or two, they started shooting at the goal because they got their confidence back.”

The 2023 quadruple-winning coach also touched on his decision to make several changes in the final half, saying rotating his players at a time when the team has plenty of injuries is a must so that every player is ready for action.

“We have been having so many injuries and I think our business is for us to be rotating every player that is in the house and now it was very difficult for us to try other players when you are not winning, but when you are leading, you can give other players a run and I think it worked today and we have seen the other type of a side that we are having.”

Following Wednesday’s win at Kamuzu Stadium, Bullets are back on the road for another TNM Super League fixture away to Karonga United on Sunday.
